Google has officially confirmed the Pixel 9 Pro’s large camera bump
Google has confirmed the upcoming release of the Pixel 9 Pro smartphone before the Made By Google livestream event in August. The announcement comes after images and videos of the device were leaked earlier this week.
The company confirmed the smartphone with an announcement video that could have waited until August 13. There aren’t many details in the video, but there is footage of the phone in action, confirming one of the big suspicions about the Pixel 9 Pro. The absolutely gigantic camera bump is real and ready to make clear dents in pockets everywhere.
Just look at that gorgeous thing. The bump looks like a 3D approximation of Bender from Futurama’s head. One thing is certain. If you buy the Pixel 9 Pro later this year, be sure to buy a new case as well. The previous cases don’t fit around that monster in any way.
In addition to the camera, Google’s video teases strong integration with the company’s Gemini AI model family. Affiliated’s marketing copy simply says “oh hi, AI” and the video shows the chatbot answering a survey. This emphasis on artificial intelligence should surprise no one. The year is 2024.
You can order data from the phone directly from Google. While we don’t have the actual specs, it’s likely that the huge bump is there for a reason (a really good camera system.)
There have been other leaks leading up to next month’s event, though this is the only one proven to be real. However, these leaks indicate that the Pixel Pro 9 will be joined by the garden variety Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and the foldable Pixel 9 Pro Fold. As always, we’ll be there on August 13 to report on everything Google announces.
